Weekend and we are heading to Sentosa for the day. Sentosa in Singapore is famous for its beaches, Universal Studios, Marine Life Park (with over 700,000 marine creatures!) and a fantastic golf course. Apparently it is is a big golf competition on Sentosa at the moment and Tiger Woods my even be there!!
It is impossible to visit Singapore without noticing the colorful high-rised HDB (Housing Development Board). More then 80 precent of Singapore’s population lives in HDB. One of more fantastic one is Pinnacle@Duxton on the pictures above. It is the first 50-storey public housing project in Singapore, housing 1,848 apartments in 7 towering blocks!! Quite impressive.
A friend of mine from Perth, Craig, had to spend a day in Singapore before he was to fly to Thailand. We catched up with two of his friends who are living in Singapore for luch. Imagine my happiness when one of them was Swedish! (cant help myself, I am always getting a bit excited when I get the opportunity to speak Swedish). We went for lunch at Wine Connection, a Tapas Bar located at Robertson Quay. This is one of the only places in Singapore to serve wine at super reasonable prices… If you are in Singapore this is definitely worth visiting for good wine and food.
Sri Mariamman Temple is Singapore’s oldest Hindu temple, built in 1823. This temple is most famous for its colorful entrance tower (gopuram) built in the 1930s. The temple is located on South Bridge Rd in Chinatown.
Since I refuse to take my shoes off (I know that if I do take them off I wont be able to put them on again. My feet are so swollen by the hot weather). So unfortunately this is the only pictures I will give you off the temple.
We are staying at Clarke Quay full off color and with a busy nightlife. The place is named after Sir Andrew Clark who was Singapore’s second Governor (1873-1874). He played a key role in positioning the colony as the main port in the region.
I love all the colors, the fantastic umbrellas that is placed above the rooftops and the beautiful lights that lights up the riverside quay up at night.
Perth dosen’t have much to brag about when it comes to shopping and compared to Singapore it has almost nothing. Orchard Road is Singapore’s answer to Paris’ Champs-Elysées and New York’s Fifth Avenue. You find over 20 shopping malls here! Singapores shopping is outstanding and If you cant find what you are looking for here I’m pretty sure you wont find it anywhere else either.
Orchard Road is also the home to The Istana, the official residence of the Present of Singapore.
